Frequently Asked Questions

What will a massage feel like?

Your massage should be relaxing and comforting, not painful.  Deeper tissue massage may elicit more pressure, but your therapist will ask how you are doing.  Occasionally, you may become sore after a session because toxins have been released into your body.  This is why it is always important to drink plenty of water after your massage.

Do I have do get undressed?

You should undress only as far as you feel comfortable.  If you choose to undress completely, you will be properly draped during your session.  If you do choose to leave on your underwear, certain areas of your body, such as your gluteal muscles, may not be worked on.  Ask your therapist if you have any questions or concerns about this.  And remember, this is your time to relax and you should only do what you are comfortable with.

What should I do during my session?

Make yourself comfortable.  Your therapist will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session.  Many people close their eyes and completely relax.  Others like to talk during their session.  You should communicate with your therapist immediately if you feel any discomfort.  Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is relaxing.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

You and your therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session.  This will determine which parts of your body require massage.  A typical full body session will include work on your head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, feet, back and sometimes gluteal muscles.

Will massage cure my illness?

Although almost anyone can benefit from massage, it will not cure an illness.  It may, however, relieve some of the symptoms of your illness.  There are some conditions where massage is not recommended.  Your therapist will ask for a health history and may need your doctor’s permission before providing services.

Do you have a license to practice massage?

Currently, you do not need a license to practice in Michigan . Our therapists are all Certified Massage Therapists (CMT).  This means that they have been trained at a school that is qualified to give them this certification.
